The Locke Standard

What a brain is held to.

Anyone can say their answers can be trusted. The Locke Standard is what that claim has to mean: four conditions, and a certification that can be taken away.

The four conditions.

  1. 01

It answers from the organization’s own brain.

Every answer comes from what the organization knows, has decided and has recorded, not from a general model's guess about them.

  2. 02

The organization governs it and stands behind it.

It decides what the brain may speak to and what stays with its people, and it answers for what the brain says as if one of them had said it.

  3. 03

    It says what it is.

Anyone who asks is told they're talking with a brain, not a person.

  4. 04

Any answer can be traced back to where it came from.

In the Locke platform, each answer maps to the approved source it came from. When a question falls outside what it was given, it says so and points to the right person instead of filling the space.

Certification can be taken away.

Certified to the Locke Standard is a claim an organization makes in public, so it has to hold every day. Any of these ends it:

  • Connecting a certified deployment to an ungoverned model.
  • Publishing answers under the Standard that didn't come from the brain.
  • Disclaiming responsibility for what the brain said.
  • Presenting a brain as a person to someone who asks.
  • Setting a brain to answer beyond what the organization has given it.

What we will and won’t claim.

We say

  • It’s grounded in approved sources.
  • It says when something is outside what it knows.
  • In the Locke platform, each answer maps to its source.

We never say

  • That it can’t be wrong.
  • Any accuracy percentage.
  • That every answer is audited by default.

The register.

Certified holders will be listed in public, so anyone can check a claim. The register opens with the first certified holder.

Four fields to start. A person reads it, and you hear back within two business days.
